Chairman of Concha y Toro visits Costa Rica to participate in exclusive Don Melchor events
As ambassador of the well-known iconic wine Don Melchor, the chairman of Viña Concha y Toro, Alfonso Larraín, visited Costa Rica on September 11 and 12 to preside over activities directed to wine collectors and lovers, in which the Don Melchor wine was the protagonist.
Apart from its undisputed quality, Don Melchor stands out for its typicity, excellence and complexity, distinctive characteristics of the Puente Alto vineyard. This is a unique vineyard of 114 hectares that offers a perfect balance between the stony soil, the cold wind blowing down from the Andes and the generous climate of the valley of the Maipo. Careful management work has enabled these 25-year old vines to produce the best grapes, with a great concentration and expression of colors, aromas and flavors. These elements are those that give shape to the unmistakable “Don Melchor character”.
Alfonso Larraín attended two exclusive dinners at the Hotel Intercontinental and the Hotel Grano de Oro, events organized by Florida Bebidas, Concha y Toro’s distributor in Costa Rica. The guests had the privilege of taking part in a vertical tasting of old 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008 vintages, where the characteristics of the iconic wine and its potential for keeping can be fully appreciated.
The exceptional 2003 vintage obtained 96 points in Wine Spectator and was awarded fourth place in the Wine of the Year ranking prepared by this prestigious American magazine. The 2005 vintage was also given 96 points, while the 2007 vintage was awarded 94+ points by The Wine Advocate magazine of the well-known critic Robert Parker.
Following each event, the collectors were able to purchase these vintages and the exclusive “Vintage Collection” case containing a selection of Don Melchor 1989, 1990, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The winery keeps in its cellars a limited collection of old vintages which are released on only very few occasions.
