Notes:
The 2007 has to be the most delicious Don Melchor I have
ever had. It is loaded with densely packed ripe black fruits,
cassis, espresso, mocha, loam, tobacco and hints of bell
pepper. Full-bodied with beautiful dusty, round and polished
tannins that just glide effortlessly across your palate, backed
by a rm structure delivering black fruits and espresso straight
through the long decadent nish. This is a remarkable wine
and will get even better over the next decade. 98% Cabernet
Sauvignon - 2% Cabernet Franc aged 15 months in French
oak. (Drink 2012-2025) - April, 2012.

Notes:
The 2007 Don Melchor (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc) was sourced from the Puente Alto Vineyard in Maipo at over 2100 feet of elevation. The wine was aged for 15 months in 78% new French oak. It sports an incipiently complex bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, exotic spices, incense, violets, and black currant, and blackberry. Structured and styled much like a classified growth Medoc, it has the balance to evolve for at least 6-8 years. Patience will be required because this tightly wound effort has much more to reveal. It should be most memorable when it attains its peak.

Notes:
The 2007 Gravas de Maipo was sourced from the Quinta de Maipo Vineyard in Maipo planted at 1300 feet of elevation in 1967. It is composed of 88% Syrah and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak. Initially reticent, with coaxing it offers up notions of smoke, game, bacon, mineral, and blueberry in the style of a top Cote-Rotie from France-s Rhone Valley. It is a suave, flavorful offering with superb concentration and length but in need of greater complexity to justify its exalted price. Perhaps that will come with another 5-6 years of cellaring.

The fruit for the 2008 Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon (which contains 3.5% Cabernet Franc) was sourced from the Pirque Viejo Vineyard in Maipo It was aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak. It displays a more brooding personality than the Syrah. Notions of pain grille, graphite, violets, spice box, and black currants lead to a structured wine with loads of layered fruit, incipiently complex flavors, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for another 3-4 years. This impressive effort will be at its best from 2015 to 2023.

The 2009 Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere contains 14% Cabernet Sauvignon in its makeup. The fruit was sourced from the superb Peumo Vineyard in Rapel Valley with the wine aged for 18 months in 42% new French oak. It displays a more brooding personality in its promising bouquet of sandalwood, exotic spices, dried herbs, floral notes, plum, and blackberry. In the glass it is full-bodied, rich, plush, and structured. The wine conceals enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for 3-4 years. This lengthy effort, stylistically similar but less expensive than the Terrunyo Carmeneres, is a great value that will be at its best from 2014 to 2024.

The 2009 Amelia Chardonnay was sourced from the El Triangulo Vineyard in Casablanca that was planted in 1992. The wine was fermented in barrel with malolactic blocked. It then spent 11 months in 40% new French oak sur lie with batonnage. Notions of toasty oak, poached pear, baking spices, jasmine, and mineral lead to a seamless, creamy textured, nearly opulent Chardonnay crying out for lobster Thermidor. Drink this outstanding effort over the next 6-7 years.

The 2009 Riberas Carmenere was sourced from the Peumo Vineyard in the Cachapoal Valley, one of the prime sites for this variety. It contains 10% Cabernet Sauvignon in its blend. It spent 14 months in French and American oak, 15% new. It displays a bit more density and richness than the Riberas Cabernet along with an inviting nose of cedar, Asian spices, incense, lavender, plum, and blackberry. Concentrated, lengthy, and moderately structured, it can be approached now but will provide pleasure for another 5-6 years. It is an outstanding value.

The lineup begins with the 2007 Terrunyo Syrah (which includes 12% Cabernet Sauvignon in its blend) in which the fruit was sourced from the Rucahue Vineyard in Rapel. The wine was aged for 15 months in 60% new French oak. The wine-s aromatics are reticent but in the glass it displays an elegant personality, spicy, peppery flavors, a smooth texture, and a lengthy, pure finish. It has the structure to evolve for several years so if the aromatics become more forthcoming, it will certainly merit a higher rating.

The 2010 Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Chardonnay is sourced from the Ucuquer Vineyard in the Rapel Valley. It spent 9 months in a mix of new and used French oak, offering up a reticent nose of apple, baking spices, and floral notes. The 2007 Carmín de Peumo Carmenere contains 6.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3.5% Cabernet Franc in its blend and spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it surrenders a brooding personality marked by notions of sandalwood, smoke, earthy minerals, dried herbs, black plum, and blackberry. Sweetly-fruit, dense, and opulent, this full-bodied, pleasure-bent offering deftly conceals enough fine grained tannin to evolve for 5-6 years and should easily see its 20th birthday in fine form. Both wines are benchmarks for what can be achieved with the Carmenere grape.

Notes:
The 2008 Carmín de Peumo Carmenere contains 7.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.5% Cabernet Franc in its blend while receiving the same elevage as the 2007 cuvee. As deeply colored as the 2007 with a similar density and richness, it does not quite possess that wine-s body and power but that is a minor quibble. It too will evolve for 5-6 years and will offer prime drinking from 2017 to 2028. Both wines are benchmarks for what can be achieved with the Carmenere grape.

Grown in the warmer, eastern reaches of Alto Casablanca, this benefits from the cool season in 2010: It’s a creamy, ample sauvignon with mineral aromas that cut that ripeness, keeping the wine refreshing and tense. The acidity is firm, balancing the generous white fruit flavors.
