Héctor Urzúa is an Agricultural Engineer who majored in Enology and Fruticulture at the Universidad de Chile.
He worked his first crush at Concha y Toro in 1994 during his professional internship. In 1996 he joined the company as manager of the Lourdes winery, located in the Pencahue zone of the Maule Valley (Chile’s VII Region).
Héctor has extensive international experience. He participated in the 1999 harvest in France’s Côte-Rôtie region, which specializes in Syrah, and to further his knowledge of the variety, he also worked in a number of Syrah-producing cellars in Australia’s winegrowing regions the following year.
During his time at Concha y Toro, Héctor has held the position of Head Winemaker at the Lourdes winery, where he was responsible for the vinification of major brands, including some Sunrise and Frontera lines’ varieties. Hector’s vast knowledge and extensive experience in the Maule Valley came together when he became one of the three winemakers chosen for our super premium line, Gran Reserva Serie Riberas, where he is responsible for crafting the Syrah, one of his favorite varieties.
“Serie Riberas sets the challenge of capturing that special expression that’s so tantalizingly close”.
